I would give 2 stars based on how the hotel is right now but the extra star is for the friendly staff.
Now the reason I only give 2 stars is sadly the condition of the hotel is very run down and neglected, many things not working or broken ect.
However, this is a holiday island and for 2 years very little people are holidaying because of corona so I can appreciate why many many hotels and restaurants on Gili have been neglected and have no money to fix anything.
It does look like the hotel is having some work done to it so maybe in a few months it will be back to it's original glory.
But as of now I can say the following.
The AC in the bangalows do not work very well, both us and another guest complained, the plants are a bit overgrown, the pool no seating area anymore as they must be doing some work on that meaning the pool was surrounded by dirt.
The good things, the WiFi actually wasn't so bad for Gili, it did it's job although having to login everytime we returned to room was a little annoying but not a bid deal.
Also having complained about our AC in the room the staff eventually offered us a free upgrade.
While the upgraded rooms also we're a little neglected the AC was great so we were much happier.
So overall I believe in the past this hotel was great and I hope in the future this hotel will be great again but right now if booking then you need to expect the hotel to be different to the photos.
It's still a great hotel and worth checking it out and as I said the staff were very friendly.
I do fell sorry for these businesses and I understand it's very hard for them so I don't want my review to be to negative or to harm their business but I wanted to give an honest understanding review.
The hotel itself was quite nice. The bungalow was adorable, breakfast was tasty and the staff were great. Just don't come here if you want a quiet time. Or bring good earplugs because the loud music, the prayer calls from the mosque and the drunks will keep you up at night. Also there was a little window in the bathroom trough which people could see you shower if the walked by.
After we already Booked the place and paid the villa at arrive they said we need to pay an extra fee of 150 euro out of nothing. So we called the owner and he said that the fee must be paid and they sent us a message( what was 1 day before arival and we booked 1.5 months before arival) so they tried to get even more money from us just at arival because they knew we could not find easily am other place at that time.
However the staff was great that worked there and was trying to help us becouse they didn't could do anything abouth it
So if this also happened to you pls report the owner
All this was after we already got an booking comfirmation so the owner was trying to scam us. We did not stayed there just becouse of the greedy owner
